The Directorate of Criminal investigations has issued an apology for being put on the spot for disinformation to the public on Monday's demonstrations that was organized by Raila Odinga’s led Azimio La Umoja.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) posted pictures of people who allegedly damaged property during Monday's anti-government protests on Friday. According to independent fact-checkers, this information is "partly false."

All those whose pictures were published were required by the DCI to surrender to the nearest police station by Friday at 5 p.m.

The country's criminal agency, however, has received conflicting responses after it became known that some of the images it disseminated of the allegedly wanted people for hooliganism were taken on various dates, some as long as ten years ago.

On March 26, Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, demanded an apology from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which had been exposed for using photos that were not accurate.

She said in a statement that numerous fact-checks showed the violent images, which DCI claimed were from Azimio's protest, were actually from other times and places.

The sleuths admin due to pressure from the public took to their Twitter account apologizing citing that Kenyans Misled them by submitting old photos through public social media channels.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations wishes to unreservedly apologize to the public for the mix-up of images in yesterday’s communication, which was meant to appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of criminal suspects involved in Monday’s illegal demonstrations. The mix-up was partly occasioned by the overwhelming information that we had received via the #FichuakwaDCI online platform regarding the reported incidents of violence.” their apology read in part.

The apology has however elicited numerous emotions from the members of the public calling them out for disinformation to the public.
