On Tuesday, December 27, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) stopped an attempted robbery in Nairobi county's Makadara estate. According to a statement from the DCI, the detectives got involved just before midnight as the three armed robbers were about to engage in a ferocious shootout.

One of the gangsters was shot and killed by the investigators, while the other two managed to escape with bullet wounds and disappear into the Marigui-ni slums. The DCI stated that the detectives were responding to a tip-off from the general public regarding the gang of criminals who were intimidating pedestrians along Mariakani Road.

When the armed criminals refused to comply with instructions to surrender, the undercover policemen confronted them.

The detectives found a handmade handgun with two live 9mm rounds after the event. The cops also found a communication device from the murdered mobster that looked like a police walkie-talkie that the thugs were using.

Part of the DCI statement said, "Detectives located at the Forensic Crime Scene Investigations section photographed the scene of the crime while the body was transferred to a city morgue awaiting examination."

Since then, police have started a manhunt for the two fugitives, and they're asking the public for any information that can help catch them. The city has seen an increase in armed robberies as a result of the authorities cracking down on criminals.

A three-man machete-wielding gang was ambushed and apprehended by DCI officers on December 22 after they were trapped and retreated into a church in Mathare, Nairobi county. According to reports, the group attacked a woman in the vicinity on Muratina Road.
