Sports Arts and Culture Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has promised to resuscitate sports and arts in the country. While on a visit in Bomet alongside Governor Hillary Barchok the leaders agreed to merge their efforts to rebuild a section of Bomet County Stadium which was renovated in 2014.
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok expressed the excitement of the visit by the Ababu, terming it as a part of the president’s dedication to fulfil their promise.
“We are happy today to be visited by CS Ababu, and the main reason why he is here is due to a follow-up of what we requested of the president, and he promised to keep the promise,” Said Barchok.
In addition, Barchok said that Counties do not have enough resources to implement certain projects.
“We made a special appeal to the president for the national government to come through to assist us in completing this project. As counties we have scarce resources, and that is why we made an appeal.” Barchok added.
The cabinet secretary who is on a mission to oversee stadium assessments noted that Bomet County stadium was constructed haphazardly.
“When you look at this stadium, this is the true face of haphazard. There is a total lack of coherent planning and that is why as a ministry we have announced that all facilities will only be developed professionally”. Ababu declared.
Ababu alluded that his ministry is on the tail end of finishing the national mastermind plan and after completion they will be announcing it to Kenyans.
Bomet County Commissioner Mohammed Omar has termed the plan to revive sports as it will help in curbing crime among the youth.
“It is a landmark for Bomet County, through this we will see young people being engaged meaningfully and through sporting activities criminal activities will reduced” Said Omar.
