The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended Corporal Dobin Peter Naibei, Badge Number 86743, stationed at Shauri Moyo Police Traffic Base.

Naibei who is a Traffic Police Officer was taken into custody for unlawfully detaining a motorist under the pretext of lacking valid motor vehicle insurance and subsequently soliciting a bribe for the release of the impounded vehicle.

The affected motorist, refusing to yield to the bribery attempt, promptly reported the incident to the EACC. In response, the Commission initiated an operation resulting in the arrest of the implicated officer on the night of Thursday, December 14, 2023. Naibei is presently held at Kilimani Police Station, awaiting further processing by the Commission.

The suspect is expected to face bribery charges in accordance with Section 6(1) (a) and Section 18 of the Bribery Act of 2016.

EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi affirmed the arrest, underscoring the Commission's heightened vigilance on highways nationwide during the holiday season to enforce anti-corruption laws.

Notably, the Commission recognizes the potential hazards associated with corruption on roads, such as accidents stemming from the operation of unsafe vehicles and other traffic law violations.

Motorists have been urged to adhere to all traffic regulations and report any suspected corruption incidents to the EACC for appropriate action.

The commission is working hand in hand with the Inspector General of Police and other government entities in combating the scourge of traffic corruption, noting that it has an adverse impact not only on motorists but also on the nation's reputation.
