Ghanaian international footballer, Christian Atsu, has been found dead following a 12- day search after the devastating earthquake strike in Turkey and Syria.
His agent, Nana Sechere, confirmed that Atsu's lifeless body was found under the rubble in the apartment he was staying, with other Hatayspor team mates and officials in Hatay. Moreover, thermal imaging cameras depict up to 5 lives beneath the rubble. The club’s director, Taner Savut is also reported missing.
31-year-old Atsu is a former Chelsea and Newcastle winger who has been playing for the Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor which is based in the Kahramanmaras, one of the areas that was struck the hardest. The first strike was of a magnitude 7.8 followed by a magnitude of 7.5 shortly after.
Atsu scored the only goal in their last match against Kasimpasa. His loan spell at Rio Ave offered a huge chance for him for a move to Chelsea.
In 2016 he made a permanent move to magpies after spending five years at Stamford bridge which he never made an appearance as he was on loan away from the club with Newcastle, Malaga, Bournemouth, Everton and Arnhem.
The 2016 -2017 period was a success period for him too after being promoted to the Premier League with the club under Rafa Benitez making a total of 121 appearances during the 5 years.
Later on he moved to Saudi Arabia to join the Al Raed team before joining the Hatayspor last September. The search for more bodies and survivors is still ongoing with more than 40 000 people killed.
