The chairman of the Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati has left Kenyans in awe after calling a meeting with journalists at the Bomas of Kenya to kick off announcing the presidential results by beginning with one constituency.

In his statement to the media, Chebukati, who is the presiding officer of the presidential elections, officially announced the results from Webuye East constituency, Bungoma county.

He said the constituency has 48,950 registered voters but only 30,491 turned out to vote on Tuesday, August 9.

Kenya Kwanza presidential flag bearer William Ruto garnered 16,412 votes (53.89%), followed closely by Raila Odinga of the Azimio One Kenya coalition who garnered 13,720 votes (44.99%).

George Wajackoyah of Roots party and David Mwaure of Agano party got 249 and 110 votes respectively.

Kenyans will wait for the announcement of results from 290 constituencies after they have been included and confirmed from form 34A.

IEBC is working round the clock at Bomas to ensure that results from constituencies have been approved in accordance with each form 34A. Form 34A is filled in every polling station and legally, that is the result that is recognized as authentic.

Chebukati had previously told Kenyans that they could find form 34A on IEBC’s website and do calculations themselves. As a result, political parties are already claiming that they have done so and each side is claiming the winner.

All eyes are now on Chebukati, many anxious about not only when he intends to declare the results but also who will be the fifth president of the republic of Kenya.
