According to fresh information presented before Justice Aggrey Muchelule's tribunal, the former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), vice chairperson Juliana Cherera, and three other commissioners allegedly met with a number of Azimio leaders after the infamous press conference on August 15. The four, Cherera, Francis Wanderi, Justus Nyangaya, and Irene Masit, were allegedly booked into a posh flat in Kilimani after conducting the news conference, according to the evidence that surfaced on Tuesday, December 13.
The hounded Cherera four allegedly signed in as tenants after refusing to give the apartment management their personal information. In part, the evidence was said in a program broadcast by NTV, "At 8:36 pm on August 15, four visitors escorted by their bodyguards and other individuals arrived and checked in." The three apartments were reportedly purchased on August 16 by a lawmaker from Azimio, according to reports. The property management further asserted that the commissioners were greeted by senior Azimio officials as soon as they arrived.
Former Jubilee party secretary general Rafael Tuju and KANU's Nick Salat are among those said to have visited the apartments. After the four commissioners checked in, Tuju allegedly visited the apartments and stayed there from 9:54 pm to 10:41 pm. The former Jubilee SG is also said to have visited the residences the day after, spending more than an hour in a different room. The meeting's specifics, however, were kept confidential. In the commotion surrounding the August 9 election, Tuju was one of the politicians in the spotlight. He was charged with trying to buy votes from other people, according to IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati.
Raphael Tuju, who falsely attempted to infer ill motive to a visit by the three of us to him when he was involved in a road gruesome road carnage that almost claimed his life, "the Chairman and commissioners Prof. Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu were subjected to a smear campaign by Raphael Tuju," Chebukati claimed in his affidavit filed at the Supreme Court. Earlier, Tuju had threatened to offer CCTV footage as proof and dared the IEBC officers to reveal specifics of a 2021 meeting that had taken place at his house.
"I want Mr. Molu and Prof. Guliye to explain how they got to my house, what the conversation was about, and why it tended to focus more on auctioneers than commissioners. By the time of publishing, Tuju and the other Azimio leaders listed in the new study had not yet responded. Allegations that the Cherera four attempted to thwart the will of the people during the elections on August 9 are the subject of an investigation. Masit remained on the Commission after resignations from Cherera, Wanderi, and Nyang'aya. To challenge her hearing before the panel, she submitted a move to the High Court.
