Chelsea forward Pierre Emirick Aubamayeng has announced his return to the Gabon national team. Aubameyang, a former Barcelona striker, announced his retirement from the national team in May 2022.
The 33-year-old former Arsenal striker had scored 30 goals in 72 appearances before quitting his national duties. While announcing his return, Auba said he arrived at the decision after a meeting with Gabon`s president.
“A few days ago I had the immense honor to be received by the President of the Republic of Gabon, Ali Bongo Ondimba and at the same time listened to the wise words he said to me as a father talking to his son” Auba said through his Instagram account.
“Following this, I therefore put myself at the disposal of my country and coach Patrice Neveu”. He added.
Aubamayeng has not been in full form at Chelsea premiere under Graham`s Potter who parted ways with the blues before Frank Lampard took over as an interim coach.
The Golden boot winner who helped Gunners reach the FA cup under the current Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has played five times for Chelsea this season and managed to score once against Crystal Palace.
Aubameyang is the most successful player Gabon has ever produced, and will be a major boost for the Panthers ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast in January next year .
Gabon are currently top in their pool with seven points after playing four matches and have two rounds to play for them to get a slot in the Africa Cup of Nations.
