The chief administrative secretary of Lands and Public Works Kimani Ngunjiri, and the patron of the Kenyan Internally Displaced Persons Organization (KIDPO) , want security forces to look into the issue and prosecute anyone involved in the covert recruitment of youths into illegal gangs and cults.
Speaking at different events, the two leaders voiced their concerns about how dishonest politicians are using the gangs to stir up controversy for political currency in Nakuru.
CAS Ngunjiri called on the nation's security organizations to reactivate community involvement in security management clusters so that people in the community may provide the agencies with information on suspected groups that could pose a threat to the community.
Their remarks come just a few days after a huge group of rowdy youths engaged with the police in Nakuru. The youth are alleged to be supporters of former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and their actions were in protest of his arrest.
Njenga was taken in for questioning after police seized a firearm, rounds of ammunition, and rolls of cannabis sativa at a property in Nyandarua believed to be connected to him.
Ngunjiri urged national lawmakers to treat police officers with dignity so that they can fulfill their primary responsibility of defending the lives and property of all residents.
The Kenya Kwanza administration's elaborate, progressive, and inclusive youth empowerment program, which, according to the CAS, is designed to provide opportunities for youth to take advantage in their quest for employment, was reassured to youth in the nation. The CAS further advised youth to avoid hostile and disruptive causes.
KIDPO patron Peter Tena on his part challenged security organizations to crack down on criminal groups without fear or favor, claiming that the selective application of the law to well-known gangs could encourage criminal movements.
KIDPO youth leaders, Dennis Juma and Eunice Wangari, urged the youths to abstain from misleading movements and instead look for opportunities through government initiatives to elevate their livelihoods through agri-business and technology
