Three-time World cup Brazilian winner Pele is being treated after a statement from the Sao Paulo hospital stated that the legend’s cancer has progressed. The eighty-two-year-old Brazil legend is battling colon cancer and is expected to spend Christmas in the hospital. Pele has been in hospital for three weeks. An update on his condition has now revealed he requires care for cardiac and renal dysfunction and has also been treated for a respiratory infection.
One of his daughters Kely Nascimento took to Instagram and she confirmed that the family of the Brazilian legend will stay with him in the hospital during the Christmas period.
"We decided with doctors that, for many reasons, it will be best for us to stay here, with all the care that this new family at Einstein gives us. We will even make some caipirinhas (no kidding). We love you and we will give up an update next week." Kely wrote on Instagram.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento which is Pele’s real name, had a colon tumor removed in September 2021. Neither his family nor the hospital have said whether it had spread to other organs. Pele now remains in a common room at Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo, but the facility announced that the former football star is experiencing a progression in his cancer that has elevated concern about his condition.
Pele led Brazil to victory in the 1958, 1962, and 1970 World Cups and remains one of the team’s all-leading scorers with 77 goals. However, Neymar tied Pele’s record during the latest World Cup.
