Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed that he is yet to receive his gift of two million Kenyan shillings that he had been awarded by President William Ruto at the State House Nairobi.
Appearing in an interview on Look UP TV the celebrated athlete was asked whether he had already squandered the two million grand price to which he responded that the money had yet been deposited into his account.
Interviewer: “The president gave you two million, umeimaliza Kweli?”
Omanyala: “Bado haijaingia kwa account.”
Omanyala is among the athletes that had been invited to the State House when they arrived in the country from the diamond league competitions in France. The invite was to award and celebrate Kenyan athletes who had raised the country’s flag high.
During the event at the State House, the 100 meters record holder jokingly asked the president for tea and was awarded a two million cheque.
The head of state explained that going forward, all athletes who break world records would receive a Sh5 million cash prize for every record after awarding Faith Kipyegon the same amount for her stellar performance and breaking the world record
President Ruto acknowledged that Kenya’s talents are among the best marketers and ambassadors of the country and thus they should be accorded national honours as well.
