The Football Association (FA) charged Arsenal in a statement on Friday, January 6, in response to the incident that occurred at the conclusion of the game.

On the final play of their 0-0 tie at the Emirates Stadium, the Arsenal players are charged with being unruly.

"Arsenal has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following its Premier League match against Newcastle United FC on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

"It’s alleged that Arsenal FC failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 95th minute, and the club has until Tuesday, January 10, 2023, to respond," the statement read.

When the referee failed to give a penalty for handball after Granit Xhaka's cross struck Jacob Murphy's arm in the 95th minute, Arsenal players surrounded him.

A number of disputed calls during the game led to complaints from Mikel Arteta and other Arsenal players over being denied two penalties.

Arteta was questioned about the occurrences following the game and informed that the squad had been denied two penalties.

With 44 points, Arsenal is five points clear of Manchester City in first place in the Premier League. On Monday, January 9, the Gunners face Oxford United in the third round of the FA Cup.
