At the Kakamega-based institution, a disease outbreak linked to tainted food and water has resulted in the death of another student from Mukumu Girls' High School.
The student passed away while in the intensive care unit on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
Four girls are still being treated in hospitals, according to Kakamega County Health executive Bernard Wesonga, who confirmed the death. With the student's death, the disease has now claimed the lives of three students.
The samples from the sick students were taken and sent to the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) for examination in order to determine the origin of the illness and outbreak.
Principal Ndolo requested parental supervision of students in a letter to parents and guardians after closing the school indefinitely.
The Kakamega-based school was on the spot when two students died at the school in 2022, malaria was initially cited as the probable cause.
One of the deceased students reportedly had a pre-existing condition, while the other passed away following surgery in a suspicious incident.
