Former Kenya Sevens Rugby player Alex Mohaga Olaba has been jailed for plotting to kill a witness in his rape case and given additional two years for causing interference with the court process.
Alex Olaba will serve the sentence for six years concurrently. According to magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo, Alex was found guilty of two charges, attempting to kill a rape case witness and interfering with the court process in a case that involves him alongside his teammate former Kenya Seven player Frank Wanyama in a gang rape, where the case is undetermined in the court.
Magistrate Onsaringo said the accused has admitted his mistake and he is regretful of his actions and promised not to repeat such an offence in the coming days. In addition, magistrate Onsarigo says that the cause of sentencing Olada is to account for his omission and to caution people with similar intentions.
“In spite of the fact that the accused person is regretful of his offences which are serious. I sentence him for his attempt to kill the witness for six years and another two years for distracting the court process”. Says magistrate Onsarigo.
The 27-year-old, was found guilty according to the evidence tabled in the court, he attempted to kill a key prosecution witness in a case that he is involved in.
''By looking at the evidence tabled in the court, I find the prosecution has proven the case against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt. I, therefore, sentence the accused”. Said magistrate Onsarigo.
During the hearing of the case, the officer who is in charge of the case said that the former Kenya Sevens player attempted to murder a key case witness severally, both directly and indirectly.
