Absa has officially announced a sponsorship worth 2.7 million to the 8 professional golfers and the one amateur that qualified for the Magical Kenya Open scheduled to take place from the 9th of march .
Absa bank chief executive officer ,Yusuf Omari, who was present during the announcement at the Muthaiga Golf club said that each player will get an amount of sh 300,000 besides other items needed during the tournament.
Moreover a half a million will be won for the any above candidate that will appear on the top20 while a million shillings for the ones on the top 10 after the tournament.
“The purpose for involving the amateurs and this cash prize is to attract competition and we are standing together with our local pros who have been doing great work in the past by making it to the final entry list .Moreover ,our investment is to make sure they have everything they need for the tournament to play against the world best golfers.”said Yusuf Omari.
The eight Kenyan pros include Mike Kisia ,Simon Ngige ,Daniel Nduva ,Justus Madoya ,Dismas Indiza ,Mutahi Kibugu,Samuel Njoroge and Greg Snow.
The international players also expected to participate include 2022 champion from china Ashu Wu ,2021South African winner Justin Harding ,Adrian Otaegui from Spain and Richie Ramsay from Scotland.
Omari further more stated that the reason for the decision of sponsoring the tournament this season is because the Magical Kenya Open has always embraced the Spirit of being African which is a motivation to get to the top and so things right despite the challenges people face .
Daniel Nduva one of the professional golfers extended his gratitude to Absa for the continued support and also urged Kenya to support them as they prepare to compete in the tournament.
The kids to kids fund raising golf tournament is set to happen this Friday at the Vet Lab sports club in westlands whereby the targeted amount for the fund raising is 50 million to help a number of upto 30 children annually worth food security and education.
