ODM members of the National assembly have been accused of pocketing 50 million to ditch Raila Odinga.
Taking to his Twitter, Migori senator Eddy Oketch made the allegations shortly after a section of the ODM MPs from the Nyanza region met President William Ruto at State House Nairobi for what they termed as Consultative meetings.
"It is unfortunate that a section of ODM MPs has been given 50 million by Statehouse to leave Azimio and join Kenya Kwanza. Let’s not sell the souls of our people. Betrayal in the city, you think you are destroying Baba but instead, you are destroying the community," he tweeted.
The MPs have received a lot of backlash from the other members of the party who have accused them of being greedy and betraying the people that elected them into office. Responding to senator Eddy Oketch, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina asked if the money allegedly given to the MPs should have been used to feed the poor.
City politician Alinur Mohammed tweeted, alleging that the MPs aren’t loyal to Azimio as they were part of the Kamukunji rally in the Kibra constituency calling on the resignation of president William Ruto only for them to dine with him hours later.
“On Sunday these ODM MPs were in Kibra at the Azimio consultative rally led by Raila Odinga saying President William Ruto must go since they don't recognize him as the President, today they held a meeting with President William Ruto at State House. Now, who is fooling who in Kenya?”
Contrary to Senator Eddy’s allegations Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o clarified that he indeed met with the president and that the Money was for development purposes.
“Today we had breakfast with the president, I followed up on the Start date of the construction of affordable housing in the Highrise ward and the completion of the Lang’ata TVET. The project is on and the contractor is on the ground, an extra 50 million has been located for the completion.”
The meeting comes after President Ruto had a three-day tour in the Nyanza region for the launch of the affordable housing project.
