The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has conducted a crackdown operation resulting in the seizure of 78 shisha pots and the arrest of 9 people from two well known party venues in Nairobi.
According to a statement released by NACADA, they started their operation at the Quiver Eastlands, where they found 18 shisha bongs along with assorted flavors. Two people were arrested for selling shisha, which contravened legal notice 292 of 2017.
Additionally, the team extended its crackdown to Habanos lounge where they got hold of 60 shisha bongs and 126 asserted flavors. Due to this, seven people including the sellers, manager and users were arrested and taken to police station.
“Last night the Authority carried out a shisha prohibition enforcement exercise and our enforcement team visited Quiver Eastlands where 18 shisha bongs and assorted flavors and shisha preparation paraphernalia were seized. Two individuals were also arrested for the offense of selling shisha in contravention of legal notice 292 of 2017.” Read in a statement.
“The team extended the crackdown to Habanos Lounge, where 60 shisha bongs were seized, 126 pieces of assorted flavors, and assorted paraphernalia used in shisha preparation confiscated. Seven people were arrested, including the manager, sellers, and users.” Read in a statement.
Currently, all those arrested are detained at Jogoo Road Police Station awaiting to be presented in court to be charged for their offenses.
This comes after the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki assured Kenyans that the Government is on toes to fight drug abuse in Kenya.
