An 80 years old granny from Gícagi village in Embu County is crying for help to raise and protect her 9-, 10- and 12-years old grandchildren under her care.
According to information privy to look up digital, their father abandoned them after he was beaten following claims that he was plotting to kill his children.
The pain of walking in tattered clothes and an empty stomach, coming from a home with barely nothing to call their own and a school they rarely attend crashes their dreams daily.
Their years of cry have finally landed on merciful ears after the Embu County women Representative Njoki Njeru came to their rescue.
Hon. Njoki, while challenging the national government to map out school going children facing difficulties of accessing education, has facilitated the treatment of the granny.
The granny is undergoing treatment at Runyenjes level 4 hospital while the eldest grandson victor fundi who broke his leg while fetching firewood is admitted at Imani Christian school in Mbeere south.
The other siblings are waiting for the social services department office under the women representative to be placed in a children’s home and a new school.
Hon. Njoki has called on the ministry of health to lower the NHIF monthly contribution rates as promised by the Kenya kwanza government’s manifesto that seeks to ensure Kenyans enjoy the services.
According to Childline Kenya, over 13,000 cases of child neglect and abandonment have been reported in the last 10 years.
Child neglect increases the chances of exposing them to many if not all forms of danger – drug abuse and sexual assault- that risks their future.
