Rinchneck Elementary School located in Virginia has recently sparked the headlines after a 6-year-old boy shot his teacher who was playing ‘hero.’
The boy is said to have taken the firearm from his home to school.
The Virginia teacher, 25, was hailed as a hero by police for removing pupils from her classroom.
The teacher was first identified by James Madison University as Abby Zwener.
When Zwerner was in the middle of the class, the child had stolen the 9 mm Taurus handgun from his house, put it in his backpack, and pulled it out. He made one shot while pointing. Zwerner was shot in the hand and into the chest as he assumed a protective stance.
After the incident, the injured teacher made sure all of her students were able to leave the classroom. She arrived at the administration as the last person to leave.
A court was to decide whether to renew a temporary order holding the 6-year-old boy in custody. In the meantime, the boy was temporarily on detention order and is being evaluated at a local hospital.
The school will be closed for a week to allow students ‘to heal’ from the incident.
