21,550 Teacher Interns To Be Hired By TSC

To address Kenya's teacher shortage, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced that it will hire 21,550 teacher interns in January 2023. In addition to recruiting the teacher-interns, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia stated that the commission will also hire 9,000 additional teachers on a permanent and pensionable basis.

She stated on Wednesday, December 21, "The TSC praises the government for finding resources to allow us to recruit an average of 30,000 teachers in an activity we are expected to end next month (January 2023)."The TSC boss spoke at the Mitihani House in Nairobi during the release of the 2022 KCPE exam results.

All unemployed teachers are urged to submit applications for these positions by Friday, December 23, stated Macharia. The TSC chief reported that there were 28, 408 centre managers,28,727 supervisors, 74,990 invigilators, and 5,647 examiners involved in the administration of the KCPE exam in 2022. 1,233,852 candidates in all took the KCPE test in 2022.
