An 11-year-old girl in Ting'a village, Nyamira County, woke up on March 29 2023, got ready for school, and left the house.

The Grade Six student was given instructions by her grandmother, who she lives with before she left for Ekoro Primary School to collect a debt from a neighbour after school in the afternoon.

However, due to an unknown series of events, this would be the last time the girl, though still alive, is seen.

She never returned home in the afternoon. The Guardian reported a missing person to the local chief the following day.

Worst fears were confirmed on April 3 after five agonising days of looking for the girl. According to the grandmother, on this particular day, intuition took her to a well inside the compound. She saw something floating and told the villagers.

Officers from Manga Police Station were alerted by the area chief and arrived at the scene to find the body of the missing girl.

The student attended classes on Tuesday, April 28 and then a sporting event at a neighbouring school, according to the head teacher of Ekoro Primary School. He claims that she didn't exhibit any signs of stress.

The autopsy will determine whether the girl was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped in the well or if she actually passed away in the water body. Her body is currently lying in the mortuary at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital in anticipation of the procedure.
